Who We are Looking For
We are looking for a Junior UI/UX Developer who can help bring our platform to life. You’ll collaborate closely with our design-minded co-founder (who has a sharp eye for aesthetics), and work mostly on front-end with some middle-to-back-end tweaks that make the user journey seamless. This is a contract (1099) opportunity with potential for ongoing work and growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement intuitive, attractive UI/UX for our WordPress-based platform (Spectra + ACF Pro).
- Assist with front-end design: page layouts, mobile responsiveness, and ensuring consistency with brand guidelines.
- Support plugin integration tasks like Jet Smart Filters for detailed vendor search, or tweaks to our custom Crave Locally plugin.
- Collaborate on user flows for event booking, vendor pages, and membership experiences.
- Work with existing plugins (LatePoint, SureCart, Gravity Forms, Yoast, etc.) to refine functionality and enhance usability.
- Assist in light QA and troubleshooting (browser quirks, plugin conflicts, etc.).
Tech Environment
- WordPress on VPS (ScalaHosting, PHP 8.4, MariaDB).
- Core Plugins: ACF Pro, Jet Smart Filters, SureCart, Gravity Forms, Blog2Social, Spectra, and a custom Crave Locally plugin.
- Git/Bitbucket for version control.
- Cloudflare + Wordfence for security, MailerLite for email, and Zapier for light integrations.
Required Skills
- Basic experience in front-end web development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP).
- Experience with WordPress theme development, page builders, and custom fields.
- Experience with relational databases, PHP/Python to develop websites (class projects count).
- Motivated to learn by doing and comfortable in a startup environment where things move fast and sometimes break.
- Design eye and endeavor to deliver a smooth UX both functionally and aesthetically
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with plugin customization (ACF, Gravity Forms, Jet Smart Filters).
- Comfort with version control (Bitbucket/Git).
- Interest in agritourism, local experiences, or data-driven marketplaces.
Time Commitment and Compensation
- Contract role, paid via 1099.
- Rate based on experience.
- Initial workload project-based; may expand with company growth.
- Flexible schedule – work can be done on weekdays or weekends based on mutual availability.
What You Will Gain
- A chance to build a product from zero to scale with real impact
- Be part of a growing mission-driven startup focused on inclusive, sustainable tourism
- Flexible hours, remote-friendly collaboration, and lots of creative freedom
- Visibility as a founding team member with potential for equity/ownership
- An inspiring mission—making agri-tourism more inclusive, transparent, and easy to explore
This role is project-based and offered as an independent contractor (1099) opportunity. Crave Locally is an equal opportunity collaborator and supports flexible work arrangements.
