About the owners
Aimee and Todd Henkle’s love story with wine began in Bordeaux on their honeymoon in 1998. Over the years, they explored Napa Valley and Oregon’s Willamette Valley, dreaming of owning a vineyard in an emerging wine region. When corporate careers brought them to Virginia in 2007, they discovered “DC’s Wine Country” and were impressed by the quality of local wines. In 2012, they stumbled upon Lost Creek after a family hike and fell in love with its charm. Later that year, they purchased the property, combining Aimee’s passion for wine and Todd’s business expertise to bring their vision to life.
History of the venue
Lost Creek sits along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Loudoun County, an area known for its superb terroir. The Henkles acquired the estate in 2012 and have since built a destination where visitors can experience both the natural beauty of the vineyard and the transformation of Virginia into a serious wine region. From its beginnings as a charming property tucked into the countryside, Lost Creek has evolved into a winery that celebrates Loudoun County’s rise as a center of East Coast winemaking.
Winemaking philosophy
Lost Creek’s philosophy is to let the fruit speak for itself. Using sustainable practices and organic-leaning methods, the vineyard team minimizes intervention in the cellar to showcase the natural qualities of Loudoun County grapes. Whites like Chardonnay are whole-cluster pressed and barrel-fermented in French oak, while reds undergo cold soaking, natural fermentation, and extended maceration before aging for 18 months in French oak and an additional 6 to 12 months in bottle. With 100% of wines crafted from Loudoun County fruit, Lost Creek produces elegant, complex bottles that reflect both the land and the season of each vintage.
