About the owners
Three Creeks Winery is the vision of P-J and John Lawrence, longtime Virginia residents whose love of wine began with a visit to Napa in 1986. After decades of exploring wine regions across the U.S. and Europe, the couple deepened their knowledge through Piedmont Virginia Community College’s viticulture and enology courses and hands-on experience with the “Be a Winemaker” program at Vint Hill Craft Winery. Their growing passion led to the purchase of their 28-acre property in 2017, where they transformed it into a welcoming farm winery that reflects both their curiosity and commitment to Virginia’s evolving wine scene.
History of the venue
Set on land once home to Quaker families and later a working dairy farm, the property carries a rich agricultural legacy dating back to the late 1800s. The main house and original dairy barn, built in 1898–99 by the Hughes family, and the early-1900s bank barn now converted into the tasting room, preserve the site’s rural charm and craftsmanship. Today, roughly 10 acres of vineyard support varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Manseng, Merlot, Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Baco Noir, connecting the winery’s modern identity to its agricultural roots.
Winemaking philosophy
Winemaker Ashton Lough brings a scientist’s precision and an artist’s palate to every vintage. With a background in biochemistry and molecular biology, his focus on balance—achieving harmony between fruit, acidity, and tannins—has earned Three Creeks recognition at the Virginia Governor’s Cup, American Wine Society, and Loudoun Wine Awards. The result is a collection of wines that combine technical excellence with a sense of place, inviting guests to enjoy both the beauty of the land and the thoughtful craft behind each bottle.
