About the owners
Doug Fabbioli and Colleen Berg began shaping their dream of winemaking more than 30 years ago, first honing their skills in California before returning east to Loudoun County in 1997. In 2000, they discovered a 25-acre parcel in southern Lucketts that suited both their family life and their long-term vision for a vineyard. Plantings began the following year, with Merlot as the anchor varietal and Petit Verdot for blending. Doug’s winemaking ethos was shaped early by his grandfather Leone, who crafted wine with meticulous care in his Elmira basement; today, Doug and Colleen carry that legacy forward with a focus on craftsmanship, community, and stewardship.
History of the venue
The land that now supports Fabbioli Cellars was first identified by Colleen in 2000, when she recognized its potential for both a home and a vineyard. By 2001, the family was planting vines and building the residence, creating a unified estate where daily life and viticulture developed side by side. What began as carefully chosen plantings of Merlot and Petit Verdot expanded into a working farm winery shaped by a close-knit network of family, friends, employees, and volunteers. Every phase—from planting and pruning to bottling and pouring—became part of a shared effort to build a winery rooted deeply in Loudoun County’s rural character.
Winemaking philosophy
Fabbioli Cellars follows a philosophy grounded in craftsmanship, respect for the fruit, and thoughtful adaptation to the vineyard’s conditions. Doug applies the principles passed down from his grandfather—sorting fruit with intention, keeping lots separate, and understanding the grower behind each grape—while incorporating modern viticultural and enological techniques. The team emphasizes earth-friendly farming, constant evaluation, and disciplined cellar work to ensure each wine reflects both the vineyard and the vintage. Guided by a commitment to fine wines and sustainable practices, Fabbioli Cellars seeks to express the best of Virginia through balanced, carefully tended wines.
