About the owners
George’s Mill Farm is an eighth-generation family farm in Loudoun County, Virginia, originally settled around 1750 by John George and still operated by his descendants more than 270 years later. The current farmstead cheesemaking operation was established by farm residents Molly and Sam Kroiz in 2013, building on the family’s deep agricultural roots while focusing on artisanal dairy production and diversified farm products. The family also lives on site, alongside a historic Civil War-era stone house that now serves as part of the farm’s landscape.
History of the venue
The property now known as George’s Mill Farm has documented history back to at least the late 1700s, with early records tracing ownership back to John George and continued development by his descendants over generations. The farm combines this longstanding agricultural legacy with modern artisanal food production, adding its cheesemaking operation only in the last decade but building on centuries of farming tradition. A historic stone house on the property, constructed in the late 1860s by Samuel George, reflects the farm’s continuity and place in Loudoun’s rural heritage.
Winemaking philosophy
George’s Mill Farm produces farmstead cheeses and other goat-milk-based products using milk from its own goats and emphasizes pasture- and browse-based animal care across roughly 90 acres of pasture and browse. In addition to cheeses, the farm creates items such as caramel, gelato, soaps, and pork, reflecting a diversified farmstead approach that draws on its own livestock and artisanal practices. While the farm store operates on an honor system and is open 24/7, the rest of the property is generally not open to the public except during specific seasonal events such as spring baby goat season, monthly community barn dances, and the Loudoun County Farm Tours.
