About the owners
Hiddencroft Vineyards is a true family-run operation, shaped by a commitment to authenticity and hospitality. From the start, the owners have focused on keeping production small, approachable, and estate-driven, with nearly all wines made from grapes grown on their own property. Their philosophy is simple: combine gracious service with high-quality, drinkable wines that reflect the land and the laid-back atmosphere of rural Loudoun County.
History of the venue
The vineyard is rooted in a historic farmstead that predates the Civil War. The current tasting room is housed in a restored 1860s farmhouse, once part of the Compher family homestead in what was known as “The German Settlement" now known as Lovettsville. Surrounding the farmhouse are log outbuildings dating back to the mid-1800s, a working spring house, and a 1929 bank barn repurposed for tastings and events. Stone paths, Dutchman’s Creek, and gardens—including a registered Monarch Waystation—create a sense of continuity with the land’s agricultural past while offering visitors a uniquely historic setting.
Winemaking philosophy
Hiddencroft takes pride in sourcing 100% of its grapes from Loudoun County, with 97% grown on its own estate and the remaining 3% from a neighboring vineyard just five miles away. This tight geographic focus ensures that every white, red, and rosé reflects the character of the local terroir. Reds are aged up to 42 months in barrel, whites are crafted for complexity with notes of fruit and spice, and rosés are offered in both dry and off-dry styles. Novelty fruit wines such as blueberry, cherry, and pomegranate add a creative twist, but the unifying philosophy remains clear: approachable, high-quality wines rooted in Loudoun County’s soil.
