About the owners
Stone Tower Winery is the vision of the Huber family, who have called Hogback Mountain home for three generations. Mike and Kristi Huber, wine lovers long before they became vintners, were inspired to share the land’s beauty while preserving its agricultural roots. Their commitment to hospitality and excellence led them to bring in top consultants to evaluate their 300-acre estate and guide them in planting classic vitis vinifera varietals. Today, the family continues to shape Stone Tower as both a working farm and a welcoming destination where life’s milestones are celebrated.
History of the venue
The winery sits atop Hogback Mountain in western Loudoun County, a property where the Hubers built family traditions before opening it to the public. What began as a family retreat has evolved into a premier Virginia wine estate, blending the old and new world through thoughtfully designed vineyards, hospitality spaces, and a dedication to land stewardship. With a focus on sharing both the views and the story of Virginia wine, Stone Tower reflects the state’s broader history as the birthplace of American viticulture, where winemaking has persisted for more than four centuries despite challenges from pests, prohibition, and war.
Winemaking philosophy
At Stone Tower, great winemaking begins in the vineyard. The estate’s vines benefit from Hogback Mountain’s unique meso-climate—steep slopes, constant airflow, and well-drained soils derived from ancient greenstone schist. These conditions force the vines to “struggle,” producing grapes of remarkable concentration and complexity. With this foundation, the Hubers and their team craft estate wines that balance old-world structure with new-world vibrancy, aiming to produce bottles worthy of global recognition. Their philosophy is clear: every element of the vineyard and winery is designed with a single pursuit in mind—to make the finest wine Virginia can offer.
