About the owners
Williams Gap Vineyard is the vision of Jack Sexton, a Northern Virginia native who balanced a four-decade career as a veterinarian with his passion for wine. Jack first planted vines in 2006 on land he had owned since 1983, gradually transforming it into a thriving vineyard with the support of his wife Jeanne and their three children. A longtime wine enthusiast, Jack remains hands-on with the estate while continuing his veterinary practice, and his favorite wine—the 2019 Red Blend—stands as a personal symbol of his dedication to winemaking.
History of the venue
Set on more than 200 acres in Round Hill, Williams Gap began selling grapes to Virginia winemakers in 2009, quickly earning a reputation for quality fruit. In 2019, the Sexton family launched their own wine production, culminating in the opening of a tasting room in 2021. Today, the vineyard combines breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains with a welcoming atmosphere for tastings, craft beer, and special events, making it a destination for both wine enthusiasts and casual visitors.
Winemaking philosophy
With over 40 acres under vine, Williams Gap grows a diverse mix of varietals carefully matched to the region’s soils and climate. Six red vinifera—Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, and Syrah—are cultivated alongside six whites, including Chardonnay, Viognier, Petit Manseng, Albariño, Vidal Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. The philosophy is rooted in the belief that great wines begin with exceptional grapes, and the estate’s growth from a grape supplier to a full producer reflects this commitment to quality. Each vintage is designed to showcase Virginia’s potential while offering guests a relaxed, approachable tasting experience.
